Muidō VR – Torajiro Kojima archive

Muidō VR – Torajiro Kojima archive
Muidō, managed and owned by Sanraku Co., Ltd., is an existing atelier created by the Western painter Torajiro Kojima, who contributed to the founding of the Ohara Museum of Art in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture. The Muidō VR, produced for the purpose of preserving the archive of this building constructed during the Meiji period, goes beyond being a mere spatial archive; it is also crafted as a documentary that highlights Kojima's lesser-known achievements.

Recording as Experience, Not Just Information

While Muidō has previously been documented through architectural plans, photographs, and videos, none of these formats have allowed future generations to have the same immersive experience as those living in the present. By utilizing 360-degree video, we have transformed the way this space is recorded—not merely as information, but as a genuine experience. This approach captures the essence of the environment, allowing viewers to engage with it as if they were physically present, thus preserving the immediacy and richness of the spatial experience for future audiences.

Tracing the Footsteps of Kojima Torajiro in Europe, Egypt, and China

Kojima Torajiro, with the support of the Ohara family, traveled frequently to Europe, Egypt, and China for the purpose of art collection. While we cannot perfectly recreate the landscapes he experienced, we have utilized historical photographs and combined them with CGI to render the streetscapes of those countries from an aerial perspective. This innovative approach allows viewers to virtually retrace Kojima's footsteps, experiencing the world he encountered during his journeys in a way that connects the past with the present.
