Magosaburo Ohara 360° documentary

360-degree Movie
The "Former Ohara Family Residence," a luxurious merchant house that began construction in the late Edo period (in the 7th year of the Kansei era), has played a significant role in the economic and cultural development of Kurashiki. It was the residence of the Ohara family, particularly Saburo Ohara and Soichiro Ohara. Currently, the residence is managed by the Yu-rin-kai Public Foundation and is known as the "Katarai-za Ohara Honten." As a documentary for VR headsets, we created a 360-degree film about the biography of Saburo Ohara, who, while being a leader of a large corporation, also engaged in numerous social initiatives.

Kawasaki University of Medical Welfare Open-Water Swimming VR Training

At the Department of Health and Physical Education at Kawasaki University of Medical Welfare, an annual open-water swimming practicum is held as part of the training program for future health and physical education teachers. The goal is to nurture teachers with the skills to prevent swimming-related accidents, especially among children, which remain a significant concern. Many students participating in this practicum have little or no experience swimming in the ocean or with long-distance swimming, which carries a potential risk of serious accidents if misjudgments are made. Fortunately, with 30 years of experience in conducting this training safely, we have created a 360-degree video content to pass on this expertise to future generations.

Before construction, we conducted simulations of the actual plans using 3DCG to facilitate business negotiations with companies. Utilizing this data, we produced 360° video content. At the exhibition, participants were able to experience it through VR headsets, allowing them to engage with the project on a physical scale.

Architect Miru Rokaku's "Denka Project" is documented by Professor Kengo Hayashi's lab at the University of Tokyo's Institute of Industrial Science (formerly the Muramatsu Lab), utilizing 360° video recording as one of the methods. By sharing the realities that may be lost in two-dimensional documentation through a physical recording, we can facilitate the exchange of ideas with those who have not visited the site in person.

The Muidō VR, produced for the purpose of preserving the archive of this building constructed during the Meiji period, goes beyond being a mere spatial archive; it is also crafted as a documentary that highlights Kojima's lesser-known achievements.

ASAHIYAKI × FUKEI

The FUKEI project, led by ACTUAL Inc., is dedicated to exploring new possibilities for digital communication in traditional crafts, in collaboration with Asahiyaki pottery in Uji, Kyoto. Through 360° video, it captures the process of crafting tea utensils and the artisans' techniques, while employing 3D augmented reality (3DAR) to replicate the dimensionality and intricate details of the tea utensils on the web. This approach lends a tangible quality to online sales. Instead of adapting crafts to the digital format, the project seeks ways for digital technology to approach crafts, conveying the essence of craftsmanship as it is, like a true “landscape” of creation.

ART360°

ART360 is a project that archives exhibitions in 360° video and distributes them in multiple languages. Based in Kyoto, the project is supported by the Nishieda Foundation, a public interest foundation, with ACTUAL Inc. managing its operations. By consistently handling research, business planning, branding, 360° video production, and operational management, we aim to realize a future where the physical experience of exhibitions—previously difficult to document and preserve—can be shared across time and distance.
