The video content was developed through extensive discussions with Professor Hamada and other instructors responsible for the open-water swimming practicum at the Department of Health and Physical Education. It was decided to include scenarios simulating challenging conditions encountered in previous practicums, such as "worsening weather," "changing sea conditions," and the "appearance of jellyfish."
Each year, the open-water swimming practicum takes place along the coast of Shimane Prefecture. We conducted filming along the actual swimming course, attaching the camera to the swimmer's head to create a sense of realism, making viewers feel as though they are actually swimming. This approach allows for an immersive viewing experience that simulates the act of swimming.
In the Health and Physical Education Department, this VR footage will be used to provide students with a simulated experience, as well as to gather biometric data during the practice, aiming for a higher level of safety in open-water swimming activities.
